Winter Regionals South: Top score for Sarah Jane Elmslie

The build-up to the 2012 NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships began this year with the Southern regionals at Patchetts EC, Hertfordshire 4-8 February. Basingtoke based rider Sarah Jane Elmslie and her own Gribaldi sired nine year old Wellington Worbaal achieved the highest score of the show with 75.83% in the Nupafeed Advanced Medium Music Freestyle.

Thwarted by injury in 2011, the gelding is now back in full force. Sarah-Jane who juggles working full time with training and competing explained, "He seems to have come out this year firing on all cylinders. He's a big powerful horse, it's just containing that in an arena; I'm making sure he listens to me and doesn't take over!"

Sarah bought Worbaal at 18months old to replace her retired grand prix horse Masterplan, "I think he (Worbaal) has more potential, as I bought him to do the job. This year he's my only horse; I want to push him and aim for small tour."

Other high scorers included Tahley Reeve-Smith and Salvatore in the Blue Chip Novice Open on 72.41%, and Paul Hayler with Loumic Antioni in the Magic Prix St Georges freestyle on 72.46%. Paul is set to perform a 'Pas de Dosey Doe' with reining star David Deptford during the gala evenings of the NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships, 18-22 April 2012.
